What the dude is up to
Raimi is doing really pretty awesome with his potty training. It seems like every day he gets a little better, and pretty soon we won’t have to deal with diapers anymore. Unbelievable. He’s not even 2 yet. I think it helps that he’s one of the younger kids at his daycare. Also it helps that Rosalie is doing an amazing job of encouraging and teaching him. Anyways we’re pretty lucky.
Verbally he continues to astound me just about every day. He’s starting to preference his opinions on different matters with the word “actually.” Also the other night in the car I said something like “I don’t like snow,” and he said “I don’t like snow, either.”
He also repeats all the words that mommy and daddy should not be saying around him, but Rosalie and I are working on not using those words around him so much. So everyone in the family is learning and growing, I guess.
What else. Raimi is really into tunnels. Even when we go under a small bridge or overpass, Raimi gets all excited about going on under a tunnel. And building tunnels out of legos for his trains to go through is one of his most favorite things.
He’s also really into drawing and coloring. It seems like anytime he has a free moment, he’s grabbing a piece of paper and looking for crayons and markers. A lot of the time he’ll hand Rosalie or I a crayon and ask us to draw a boat or a bus or a train for him. There was one night a few weeks ago where we were all drawing together and then all of a sudden he started getting really upset saying “I can’t draw a bus, I can’t draw a bus.” It was so sad. I mean he’s 1, he’s not supposed to be able to draw a bus. It just sucked to see him being struck with his own realizations like that. Maybe it hit me extra hard because drawing is the one thing that I’ve always felt like I totally sucked at and wished I could do better. But the moment seemed to pass and he hasn’t gotten too worked up about it since then. And the way this kid takes to coloring, I have to believe he’ll be drawing some pretty serious moving vehicles unbelievably soon.
Also he’s getting really good at eating with silverware, hardly making any mess at all these days. Although he still takes really huge bites of whatever he’s eating. He stuffs so much food into his mouth at once. It’s probably common. He just looks like a total monkey.
Anyways, he just blows me away. He’s so much fun to be around, and everything he does just amazes me. We’re pretty blessed.
