Spring blossoms
Tonight after work and daycare, Kevin made dinner while Raimi & I walked around the house and looked at the hyacinths and tulips almost ready to bloom. We filled up the bird bath and Raimi said, “birdies, come get your bath.”
We sat on the front stoop to watch the birds and a rabbit ran out of our bushes and sat on the lawn, watching us watching him. And Raimi said, “I want to touch the bunny rabbit. I want to hold him in my hand.” And I told him I did, too.
This morning, we had noticed that the plum tree is blossoming, and I said, “Raimi, look at the flowers! Isn’t that beautiful?” And he thought about it and said, “yeah, that’s kinda beauful.” We got in the car to go to work & daycare, and I pointed out the buds on other trees, and he asked, “what’s buds?” I explained they are like baby leaves or baby flowers, and he looked at them and took that in. So tonight, he pointed at some flowers and said, “Look mommy, buds.”
Then (and this also has to do with me growing up), tonight he went to sleep on his own, without me lying next to him.
It took a lot of him stalling (“mommy! I have to go potty.”), me being matter-of-fact about how he can totally go to sleep all by himself, telling him “you are such a good boy. I love you.” and about 5 minutes of snuggling and me saying “Raimi, when you’re ready, you go lie down on your pillow.”
And amazingly, that’s exactly what he did. And then he said, “mommy, go” and kind of waved me away.
I was ready and he was ready, and I guess we both kind of knew that he’s a big boy now.

Also, don’t forget to remember:
We were walking in the park with Grandma Iris last week, and we passed a couple who were pushing a stroller with a baby girl in it, and Raimi said, “That could be my sister.” He says he wants a baby sister, or a baby brother…. so if he gets his wish, we’ll have to remind him it was his idea.
Also tonight: I couldn’t remember the name of one of the kids in his daycare, and he thought about my question for a minute and then told me, “Dylan” which is totally right. And he said something I couldn’t understand — pointing to a scribble he had drawn, he said, “that guy has to poor it…” and I kept saying I couldn’t understand, and he kept saying it and then paused and said, “he has to pull it.”
And then later, he argued with me about how to pronounce a word:
Raimi: That’s pata
Me: yeah, that’s pasta.
Raimi: No, it’s pata.
Me: no, “pas-ta”
Raimi: Pas-ta
And also, his jokes just keep getting funnier. From tonight:
Raimi (holding a grapefruit upside down): happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. it’s a birthday cake.
Me: silly! that’s a grapefruit!
Raimi: It’s a cake. (laughs) Not really.
