Raimi & Kian
Our friend Parisa has been visiting us this weekend with her son Kian, who is almost exactly the same age as Raimi. It’s been really interesting seeing all the ways that they’re similar and different.
One thing about Raimi that becomes very clear to anyone who spends five minutes in his presence, is that he has a very rich inner life, and he’s not always interested in bringing people on the outside up to speed with what’s going on in his head.
We were driving home from Chicago this weekend. Raimi and Kian were sitting next to each other in the back seat, playing with toys. Raimi kept referring to his toy with some made-up name that I didn’t catch. I think Kian started getting frustrated that he didn’t know what Raimi was talking about.
Kian: “Stop talking baby talk”
Raimi: “I’m not using baby talk, I’m speaking Martian language.”
Kian: “Speak English.”
Raimi: “English is boring.”
Kian: “I can’t understand a word you’re saying.”
Raimi: “You are such a shozalitza.”
