Happy Words
One of the kids in Kinnell’s class had an Elmo-themed birthday party. “Elmo” has been an exciting part of his vocabulary for awhile now. So the other night, he considered the birthday hat and bouncy ball he brought home, and I guess he remembered what people were saying during the party, because he looked up, smiled, and shouted, “Happy Elmo!”
Now, “Happy Elmo!” is just something we all say when we’re happy. Kinnell also likes to exclaim, “Oh man!” and “Awesome!” He gets so mad when we’re driving around if we can’t see a bus. “Bus!” is one of the happiest words he knows. He also loves reciting the names of his classmates Eva (bayba), Izzie (I-ee), Loreale (oweah), and his teacher Dayna (Nayna).
Kinnell is also exceedingly polite these days, and says “dank you” when you give him a toy or the food he wants. “Gink you daddy,” “Gink you ma-ma” (Raimi is ma-ma). Tonight he was holding a yellow balloon he’d been given at a restaurant, and he was enjoying watching it bob around on its string. He looked up at the balloon, smiled brightly and said “Gink you!”
