Very Interesting
Kevin: Raimi, go to bed.
Raimi: I have to show you something (pants nervously).
* minutes pass*
Me: What did Raimi need?
Kevin: He needed me to get legos from under his bed. I told him to go to sleep.
*15 minutes pass – Raimi wanders into the room and looks at the tv*
Raimi: What’s that guy doing?
Kevin: Raimi! Go to bed!
Raimi: I am going to tell you the truth about why I am not going to bed.
Kevin: What?
Raimi: Because I am so excited about Santa Claus.

It’s hard, because in truth, Raimi really is interesting to talk to. His teachers at preschool will often tell us things Raimi discussed with them earlier in the day. Recent topics included the difference between the Texas flag and the American flag, and yesterday apparently he told the Assistant Director of the childcare center about Darth Vader, but then it became a conversation about optical illusions, naturally transitioning into some remarks on daylight savings time. I’m not sure where Raimi comes down on the subject, pro or con.
The other day a commercial for My Little Pony came on, and Raimi told me, “I don’t really like that toy.” “Why not?”I asked. He said, “I don’t think it’s very interesting.” What’s interesting to Raimi is the minute details of Star Wars characters, ships and mythology; the stars, sun and moon and how they look at the moment; snow globes, legos, silly story books, his rock collection and swimming lessons. Swimming lessons are SO interesting that he wants to take more. Upon request he will also glide gracefully around the kitchen to demonstrate how he will look when we sign him up for ice skating lessons.
I remember when my dad was still alive, Raimi stayed for a week with him and my mom. I asked my dad how that was going, and he told me that he enjoyed having Raimi around. He described Raimi as “a very interesting fellow.” Indeed.
