Creationism vs. Raimi
We celebrated Kinnell’s birthday with dinner with our good buddies, Claire (4), Elliott (2) and their parents. Claire wanted to say grace, and we all closed our eyes as she said a very sweet prayer, “God made the sun, God made the sea. God made the fishies, and God made me. Thank you for the sun, thank you for the sea. Thank you for the fishies, and thank you for me.”
Raimi locked eyes with me and said, “Actually, we were born from cells. Right mommy? Can you get that book? Get that book about how we came from little cells and then changed.”
“The book about evolution?” I asked. We’d been watching a nature series discussing specialization and adaptation and I found a book to explain it in children’s language.
Very seriously, Raimi responded, “Yes. The book about evolution. Because that’s actually where we come from.”
